● nisan nom masculin (mot hébreu) Mois du calendrier israélite, premier mois de l'année jusqu'à l'époque talmudique, aujourd'hui septième mois.

Septième mois de l'année civile des Hébreux et premier mois de leur année sacrée, correspondant à une partie de nos mois de mars et d'avril. Les fêtes du calendrier hébraïque étaient d'abord les néoménies, premier jour du mois, puis la Pâque au 14 Nisan, en souvenir de la sortie d'Égypte (CHAUVE-BERTRAND, Question calendrier, 1920, p. 27).

Prononc. :[]. Étymol. et Hist. 1605 (P. LE LOYER, Hist. des spectres, 604c ds Fonds BARBIER). Empr. à l'hébr. biblique (Néh. 2, 1; Esther 3, 7), et celui-ci au babylonien nisannu. Ce mois s'appelait abib dans l'anc. calendrier (avant l'exil à Babylone, cf. p. ex. Deut. 16, 1).
